Dr. Matthias Preindl
Assistant Professor, Columbia University in the City of New York

PhD, Energy Engineering, University of Padua, Italy, 2014
MSc, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, ETH Zurich, Switzerland, 2010
BSc, Electrical Engineering, University of Padua, Italy, 2008

Dr. Preindl was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the McMaster Institute for Automotive Research and Technology (MacAUTO) of McMaster University, Canada, and was a R&D engineer in power electronic and drives at Leitwind AG, Italy. His PhD research was conducted at the Electric Drives Laboratory (EDLab) of University of Padua, Italy. He was a visiting scholar and visiting student at University of California, Berkeley, USA and Aalborg University, Denmark, respectively and a trainee at the National Research Council (CNR), Italy.

The power electronics and motor drives laboratory works on design and control of power electronic and motor drive systems to achieve high efficiency, low volume/weight, high performance, and acceptable cost. Typical applications are servo drives, traction systems, renewable energy, and smart grid.
